Forget Heartstopper! In Black Burns Fast, a conservative boarding school in South Africa becomes the venue for new experiences, drama and growth: 17-year old Luthando gets entangled in a web of mean girls, nerds, worried moms, oscillating grades, thinly veiled racism, queer desires, first love, scandals and social media.
Challenged by others' preconceptions, she figures out her journey and learns to stand with her queerness and with herself.
This bubbly and fast paced coming of age comedy doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but comes in hot with headstrong and fresh visual ideas.
It offers itself to younger and older audiences with its directness, honesty and energy - and finally, it finds the joy and complexity of young African black queer experiences and centers it.
